3 months agoI’ve been a member at Crunch Fitness in West Ashley for two years, and I have to say the staff here is truly incredible. They’re always friendly, helpful, and on top of their game. Even after a major turnover, the new team is just as reliable and welcoming. However, it’s clear that the corporate side doesn’t give this team the support they need to succeed. The staff works hard to keep things running smoothly, but they’re given bare-minimum resources to do their jobs. For example, half of the cable machines have been out of service for over a month, and the water fountain has been down for three weeks. These issues aren’t the staff’s responsibility to fix, but they still take the heat from frustrated members. As someone who has been to many gyms, I truly believe that if corporate would let this staff take the reins, this gym would thrive. The team on-site has the potential to make Crunch West Ashley one of the best gyms around — they just need the tools and support to do it.

a month agoUpdate 2/13- The overwhelming urine smell in the locker room for weeks now has led my decision to no longer use it. It’s disgusting. I’ve seen cats keep litter boxes cleaner then Crunch can keep this facility. Paper towel dispensers are still broken throughout the gym, and now the giant rolls are put on the sink countertop to get soaked and for customers to put their hands all over. FACT- when the rolls are soaking up all the standing water and filth while being stored on the countertop, they collect bacteria and germs, defeating the purpose of washing your hands! Just keep the dispenser filled it’s not that difficult. Check the locker rooms once every hour for cleanliness, even gas stations do that. Same on soap dispensers, just keep them functioning and full of soap……but instead just a giant jug of disinfectant to use while washing hands? Thats not how it works. Does DHEC need to visit this place to make a difference? But hey, there’s 4 new benches in the free-weight room. Constant rotation of broken equipment, dirty locker room, and lack of bathroom sanitation. They ran out of soap, spray bottles are empty, and garbage receptacles overflowing. Clean up your act. Cringe Fitness.

3 months agoUpdate 12/28: Water Fountain has been down for 3 days now. They aren’t giving away free water and there is no water available for purchase. This place is an absolute joke of an operation. I’ve been going to this gym for over a year now, and was previously an Eco Fitness and Pivotal Member. This gym has gone downhill fast since Crunch took over. It is absolutely filthy all the time, there is not enough equipment for the amount of members they somehow are able to retain and I don’t believe they even have a cleaning staff. Often times there are multiple employees at front desk, but nobody ever cleans a thing. It’s common to go to wash your hands and no soap will be available. Imagine 20 dudes urinating in a gym toilet and not being able to wash their hands and going and touching everything. Or after you wash your hands, no paper towels to dry them and you have to walk out to the gym to find a towel dispenser that is full. The floors and sinks are disgusting and I’ve seen cleaner rest area toilets. I’ve got pictures to back it all up. It sucks because the trainers all seem really nice and most of the staff is cool, I don’t believe the same GM that ran the place previously is still there. He was great. Crunch is a hard pass now. If equipment breaks, it’s going to be a while before it gets repaired. I’m absolutely shocked they actually give tours of this place and people join after walking through it. How much would you pay to be a member of a gym where toilets look like this all the time?

3 months agoI use this gym because it’s close to my employer but it’s a 40 mins drive in. The amount of time that I’ve driven here early before work to lift and the gym is not open at the times posted blows my mind. 5am open but often times the morning staff does not show up. It’s 6:30 am as I write this and not holiday hours.

2 months agoI work out here 6 days a week. Please read the entire review.
Pivotal fitness WAS the name of this gym when I would have rated it at 4 or maybe 5 stars. Since #crunch took over it has gone downhill rapidly. The staff doesn’t seem to think anything other than collecting up and socializing at the front desk during peak hours is important. I’ve seen more than 4-5 people sitting at the front desk while the locker room goes unkept for weeks on end. For well over a week the urinal stacked up with dip pouches and chewing gum and their apparent solution was to take the urinal cake and slap the trash onto the wall next to the urinal. If this was done by a customer, which I highly doubt, the staff members should have cleaned it up immediately. It has sat like this for at least 10 day. The locker room is cleaned less than twice a month. This chick fillet cup has been here for the better part of a week. Would seem the management needs to be educated on MANAGING.
Would recommend looking elsewhere if you’re looking to obtain a membership to a self respecting gym to work on your fitness goals. It’s a shame, I’ve been using this gym for 2 years and have watched its steady decline.
