Meet the Owner: Andrew Exum of Lowcountry Business Spotlight & LowCoDeals
Our Meet the Owner series spotlights the people behind Charleston’s local businesses — the owners who chose to build here, serve here, and stay rooted in the community.
This week, we’re featuring Andrew Exum, owner of Lowcountry Business Spotlight and LowCoDeals. Andrew is a longtime Charleston local who understands the realities of running a small business because he’s lived it — and built his work around helping other local owners stay visible and connected to the communities they serve.
Built Right Here in the Lowcountry
Andrew has lived in Charleston for 31 years, and his connection to the Lowcountry goes beyond business. He loves the weather, the beach, and exploring all the great local places to eat — but more than anything, he values the community.
That connection is what led him to create Lowcountry Business Spotlight.
“I created Lowcountry Business Spotlight to give local businesses a simple, affordable way to stand out and grow right here in the Lowcountry.”
Seeing the Problem Firsthand
Before starting his businesses, Andrew noticed something many local owners experience:
small businesses are often overlooked or overcharged for marketing that doesn’t actually reach the people closest to them.
Too many marketing options focus on wide audiences, large regions, or inflated impressions — leaving local businesses paying for visibility far outside their service area. Andrew knew there had to be a better way.
What Makes His Businesses Different
Instead of marketing to everyone, Andrew focused on helping businesses reach the right people.
Both Lowcountry Business Spotlight and LowCoDeals are built around hyperlocal visibility through:
- Targeted, billboard-style postcards delivered directly to mailboxes
- Neighborhood- and zip code–specific campaigns
- LowCoDeals.com, an online local deals platform connecting residents with nearby businesses
This approach helps businesses stay visible in the communities they actually serve — without wasted impressions or unnecessary spend.
Services He’s Most Proud Of
Andrew offers two core platforms, and both reflect his commitment to supporting local businesses:
- Lowcountry Business Spotlight, which turns mailboxes into high-impact advertising
- LowCoDeals, an online platform showcasing local business deals and promotions
LowCoDeals.com is a newer launch and one he’s especially excited about — another way to help small businesses gain attention while encouraging residents to shop and support local.
Who He Works With
Andrew works primarily with small and medium-sized local businesses — owners looking for practical, affordable marketing that keeps them visible in their own neighborhoods.
Life Outside the Business
When he’s not working with local businesses, Andrew enjoys spending time with his kids and family. He loves getting to the beach whenever possible — pretty much any time of year.
What He Wants People to Know
At the core of everything Andrew does is a simple belief:
Small businesses deserve marketing that works — without the high cost or complexity.
Both Lowcountry Business Spotlight and LowCoDeals were built to make that possible through postcards in mailboxes and deals online.
Looking Ahead
Andrew’s goal is to continue growing Lowcountry Business Spotlight and LowCoDeals into trusted platforms that support hundreds of local businesses across the Lowcountry.
He wants every business — big or small — to have an affordable way to stay visible, relevant, and connected to the community around them.
How the Community Can Support
Lowcountry Business Spotlight and LowCoDeals are designed to be part of a local business’s marketing stack — working alongside what they’re already doing, not replacing it.
For local businesses, support looks like:
- Adding Lowcountry Business Spotlight to their marketing stack to reach nearby neighborhoods through targeted postcard campaigns
- Using LowCoDeals as an always-on local visibility and promotions channel
- Combining hyperlocal reach with existing digital and offline marketing efforts
For the Charleston community, support looks like:
- Discovering and redeeming local deals on LowCoDeals
- Supporting the businesses featured in neighborhood-focused mailers
- Choosing local businesses as part of everyday life
When businesses treat hyperlocal marketing as a core part of their stack — and residents actively engage with local offers — both platforms grow, and the Charleston small business ecosystem stays strong.
