At Broken Leash, we intertwine the freedom of off leash play with the laid-back vibes of a dog-friendly bar. It’s a place where Charleston’s dog lovers converge for quality time with their pets and each other.
Meet the Visionaries Behind Broken Leash
Rooted in a shared vision of a vibrant community for dogs and their companions, Heidi Ransom and Shannon Lewis, the duo behind Broken Leash, bring to life a sanctuary where freedom and care coexist. Their entrepreneurial spirit and mutual love for creating social spaces have given rise to a unique dog park and bar.
Here, every dog enjoys the liberty of play in a secure, lovingly monitored environment, while their humans relax and connect over a shared love for their pets. It’s the embodiment of their belief that socialization and safety should go paw-in-hand, ensuring a joyful and healthy experience for all.

2 weeks agoExtremely disappointed. I took my wife, my dog, and my 10 month old daughter here on a Sunday afternoon because we thought it would be a fun place to try for our dog. We were completely denied service because we had our baby with us, and they require all people to be 21+. I asked the manager to explain, and she said it was because they were afraid other dogs might jump up on our child. I looked around and counted 3 very calm dogs in the entire place. I told them I wasn’t worried about dogs jumping on my child and I would even sign a document saying I would relieve them of any liability. We just wanted a bite to eat and to let our dog play. They denied my request and made us leave the restaurant. Are you kidding me? I understand how a bar would require 21+, however, they told me it was because there were dogs there. This would imply that not even a 20 year old adult could come here because they are afraid of dogs jumping on them this is an absolutely absurd policy, and one that can easily be remedied by providing some sort of liability form to customers. This place is a joke, and I am very bummed because we wanted to become regular customers since we just moved to the area. Not anymore though. I won’t be coming back. Make sure you leave all babies AND 20 year old adults behind because apparently the dogs here are too vicious for them. Sad business choice.
